No Doubt came out of Anaheim, California and became one of the biggest genre-crossing bands of the ’90s, pulling ska, punk, new wave, reggae, and pop into something bright, weird, and completely their own. Before the radio takeover, they were a Southern California ska band grinding through clubs with big energy, sharp hooks, and enough personality to make the room pay attention.
With Tragic Kingdom, No Doubt exploded into the mainstream without fully sanding off the ska-punk foundation that got them there. Gwen Stefani’s voice, the band’s restless style shifts, and songs like “Just a Girl,” “Spiderwebs,” and “Don’t Speak” made them impossible to ignore.
